In 2001, Gadar broke all the records in terms of collections and the footfall till then. The film had grossed over Rs. 768.8 million net in India and Rs. 1.33 billion worldwide with a distributor share of Rs. 546 million, and went on to emerge as the highest-grossing Hindi film since Hum Aapke Hain Koun..! (1994). Gadar: Ek Prem Katha is the second most-watched Hindi film in India since the 1990s, recording more than 50 million footfalls in India.
In 2023, Gadar 2 is on the same path. Despite getting mixed reviews, the movie is breaking records in 2023 again. The Anil Sharma directorial Gadar 2’s total box office collection now stands at Rs 465.75 crore (nett) [By Day 17, 29th Aug 2023]. The movie has earned Rs 284.63 crore and Rs 134.47 crore in weeks 1 and 2, respectively. The movie is on the way to nett Rs. 500 Cr. Gadar 2 is expected to benefit from the Rakhi holiday on Wednesday and Thursday in many parts of the country. As of day 19, the film continued to see a 19.79 per cent occupancy in the Hindi market with audiences flocking mostly to night shows, followed by evening, afternoon and morning.
The period drama is the third highest-grosser of all time (Hindi language) after Baahubali 2 and Pathaan. It also became the quickest film to cross the Rs 450 crore mark, beating Shah Rukh Khan’s Pathaan. As it continued with its heroic run even on week 3, Sacnilk reported that Gadar 2 has also become the second Indian film to cross Rs 600 crore (gross) this year. As per Bollywood Hungama, the sequel to the 2001 hit now stands at Rs 608.95 crore (gross) after it earned Rs 60.56 crore in the overseas market
After couple of dud years, finally in 2023 Bollywood seems to have finally found its ground in terms of Box Office. Even OMG 2 which had released along Gadar 2 has already netted 120 Cr.
