It’s been more than six years since the first installment of Babhubaali was released and Bollywood makers are still obsessed with it.

After the release of Babhubaali, most critics and the audience started questioning the Bollywood fraternity.

Why can’t Bollywood ever make movies like Babhubaali?

YRF seems to have taken the question literally and made a photocopy of Babhubaali.

As an audience, what we witnessed in Babhubaali was something novel (at least in Indian Cinema) with grand set design, VFX and an excellent Indian narrative with dollops of emotions and thrills.

Unfortunately, Karan Malhotra’s Samshera falters big time due to its predictability and lame script.

When you love a girl, you even start to like her pimples. The same goes for movies. If you start not liking the script, then everything and anything in the movie stands out like a sore thumb. From the outdated story line, to the predictive screenplay and the boring music, everything seems to be wrong in the movie.

Shamsera is the story of the rebel group Khameran, who once helped Rajputs to win a war against the Mughals. After the war, Khameran were abandoned and, in order to make a living, they became dacoits, looting the rich people of Kaza. Shamsera (Ranbir Kapoor) is the leader of the group, who gets caught one day by Shuddh Singh (Sanjay Dutt). Then starts a game of deceit, a treasure hunt, and ultimately the death of Samshera. But the story doesn’t end here. Shamsera’s son, Balli (played by Ranbir Kapoor again), comes back and takes revenge like Amrendra and Mahendra Babhubaali.

What was the script writer thinking?

Ctrl+C and Ctrl+V?

The story seems so predictable and outdated that it tests your patience most of the time. Ranbir does try to bring some charm to the role, but it still feels like even he is doing it half-heartedly, as if he knows deep down he is playing a “Babhubaali” character. Vaani Kapoor plays a Naachani girl who turns rebel. Why was she there in the movie? I have no idea. At least she had one good song in “War”, but here, nothing.

The only positive aspects which I found in the movie were its VFX, production design, and, to some extent, cinematography. It’s a crime to waste such good talents with such a crappy script and screenplay.

YRF had already met disastrous response with ‘Thugs of Hindustan’ when they tried to ape ‘Pirates of Caribbean’ and once again they fell on the same stone by trying to ape ‘Bahubaali’. With flops like Bunti Aur Babli 2, Prithiviraj and now with Samshera the company might soon bleed RED financially.

Even, Alia went to sleep while watching the movie.
