Indian television is full of  musical reality shows from oldies like Sa Re Ga Ma Pa to international franchises like Indian Idol. Though most of these shows started off well with intention of bringing out hidden talents from the country, but slowly transformed into scripted drama with lot of emotional stories. TV channels tried bringing in new international franchises like X-factor, Voice, etc but none of them was big success.

Superstar singer is another run of mill musical show intended to nurture and train amatuer singers under mentorship of popular singers. The competition is not just among participants but also among the mentors. The second season had mostly last season Indian Idol top singers as captains; Pawandeep Rajan (Indian Idol Winner), Mohd. Danish and Arunita Kanjilal along with previous mentor Salman Ali. The show is once again judged by  Himesh Reshammiya, Javed Ali, and Alka Yagnik.

The first few episodes was well recieved by the audience but soon it faltered with same old antics. Despite having well trained mentors and top notch judges the show is once again depending more upon humor and emotional quotient rather than the singing caliber of the singers. There are some good talent in show but even mediocrity is being celebrated for no reason, which makes this another run of mill mediocre singing reality show.
