Bheed (2023)

Not every novel idea turns into an excellent movie, and “Bheed” serves as a perfect example of this. Despite boasting acting powerhouse stars like Raj Kumar Rao, Ashutosh Rana, Dia Mirza, Pankaj Kapoor, and Bhumi, the film falters miserably due to its poor script and screenplay. Anubhav Sinha attempts to depict the harrowing situation of migrant workers trapped in big cities during the lockdown, but the audience fails to connect with the characters. Merely adding sad background music to the lackluster screenplay does not help the audience feel the pain of these migrant workers. Moreover, the script tries to incorporate too much, covering topics like the lockdown problem, caste system, and the rich-poor divide.

The use of black and white cinematography adds a compelling touch and works effectively in some heart-wrenching scenes. The cast delivers top-notch performances, but due to the poor execution of the script, all their efforts go to waste. Capturing the chaos of lockdown within a two-hour movie is challenging, but had the script focused on major issues only, the film could have transcended beyond a mere documentary. Instead, juggling multiple problems without delving deeply into any of them makes the movie dull and boring to watch.

Undoubtedly, the government failed to tackle the problem of Covid, as it was something new for everyone. However, there were also stories of empathy and support, showing how the whole country united to help each other. Unfortunately, the makers seemed to have missed highlighting this aspect while portraying an Ugly India on screen.

Overall, “Bheed” possesses a good script, but its execution falls short.

Had there been no cinema, then this SharmaJiKaLadka would have died long ago. Out of food, sex and cinema this guy would always choose Cinema even if he would die virgin due to starvation.
