Bhool Bhulaiya 2 (2022)

Horror and Comedy are two opposite genre in the entertainment world, when these polar opposites meet, we get films like Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2.Not only has the main cast (Kartik Aryan, Kaira Advani, Tabu) changed in the sequel, but so has the approach to the script in Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2.Bhool Bhulaiya was inspired by the 1993 Malayalam film Manichitrathazhu, whereas this one features stamps from various films, the most notable of which is the Thai film Alone, which has already been remade in Hindi with Bipasha under the same title.

The box office cash registers have been ringing continuously throughout the weekend, netting around 80 Cr. and the makers are smiling from ear to ear. One of the reasons cited by many trade pundits for the success of the movie is that the audience wants to give a tight slap to prominent Bollywood maker who is always busy promoting talentless neo-p kids. It’s the same person who once blackballed Kartik Aryan after kicking him out of his one movie and exploiting his power and money to defame the actor using bad press.

The movie is a clever mix of comedy and horror, with slapstick and sarcastic jokes along with the dark mystic world of black magic. There is the “haunted haveli“, a story about twins who are poles apart, a crooked psychic talking with the dead, etc.

Without revealing much of the story, Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2 is an entertaining fare from start to finish. Though the story meanders here and there at times, it soon comes back on track. The only downside which I found were some silly and below-the-belt lame jokes. After all, it’s the notorious Farhad Shamji who has written the dialogues. Also, compared to the first Bhool Bhulaiya’s music, this one is a big letdown. Even the remix version of the title song was not up to the mark.

The biggest USP of the movie apart from the script has to be the performances by the lead actors, especially Tabu. She is like old wine which just gets better and better with age, be it movies like Maqbool/Haider or like Bhool Bhulaiya 2, she can pull off anything. Also director “Anees Baazme” has focused more on the script and actors’ performances rather than just picturesque frames.

Barring a few scenes, this Bhool Bhulaiyaa will keep you enthralled till the end of the movie.

Had there been no cinema, then this SharmaJiKaLadka would have died long ago. Out of food, sex and cinema this guy would always choose Cinema even if he would die virgin due to starvation.
